Mangrove Rehabilitation Project, Aborlan (Palawan), Philippines

Mangroves are vital ecosystems that serve as natural defenders of our coastlines and lifelines for biodiversity. They protect Coastal Communities by acting as natural barriers. Mangroves reduce the impact of storm surges, prevent flooding, and combat coastal erosion. Mangroves also provide critical habitats for marine life, birds, and other wildlife.

These trees are powerful carbon sinks, absorbing large amounts of CO2 and reducing greenhouse gases. The mangrove rehabilitation project in Aborlan was set up in 2016 and aims to collect and plant mangrove propagules in degraded coastal areas, maintain and monitor existing mangrove plantation, and educate the community about the ecological importance of mangroves.
