In April, our global initiative focused on saving electricity across our centres. Conserving energy isn’t just about protecting the planet—it’s also a practical financial decision. With global energy prices on the rise, reducing usage by just 10% to 40% can lead to significant cost savings. Environmentally, most conventional energy sources contribute to carbon emissions and other greenhouse gases, raising our overall carbon footprint and contributing to climate change. Every small effort adds up to a healthier planet and collectively has a positive impact on the environment around us.
Green Energy and Electricity Conservation – What’s Happening in our centres Globally
Our Actions and Initiatives:
- Sharing awareness about our initiatives with participants on energy conservation during orientation and through reminder signage in key areas
- Installing solar panels at main entrances and outdoor areas, and increasing the use of solar-powered garden and corridor lights
- Replacing filament and fluorescent bulbs with energy-efficient LED lighting and installing motion-sensor LED lights in corridors and washrooms
- Adding roof insulation in dining areas to reduce energy consumption.
Maximizing the use of natural light in workspaces. - Replacing outdated air conditioners with inverter models and installing 5-star rated appliances where possible.
- Scheduling air conditioner and fan usage to avoid peak hours and restricting AC use to specific times or temperature settings.
- Ensuring fans, air conditioners, monitors, and other devices are turned off when not in use.
- Encouraging the use of solar water heaters.
- Promoting sustainable habits, such as cloth lines to dry instead of using dryers.
- Conducting regular maintenance of fans, air conditioners, and wiring.
- Monitoring electricity bills to track usage and promote behavioural changes.
- Staff double-checking rooms and workspaces after participants leave to ensure all devices are off.
