This month our featured project is our Greenway School in Gongcheng, Guangxi (China). Since 2010 this school has been a vibrant hub for learning and intercultural connection. This after-school education project brings together 120–150 local children from ethnic minority backgrounds for free English and enrichment classes in the scenic village of Fengyan. We deliver creative, engaging lessons that open windows to the wider world while gaining meaningful insights into rural Chinese culture. We beleive this is more than just a teaching program, this project nurtures curiosity, bridges cultural divides and uplifts the aspirations of children in this remote mountain community.
During the month of August mind, body and heart took center stage. The school program delivered a holistic learning experience that intigrated science, painting, handicrafts, yoga and gymnastics with deeper lessons on emotional wellbeing, gender equality and the mightly spirit of Mulan (breaking barriers, resilience & inner strength, and cultural identity & pride). English lessons tied into cultural themes, while reading sessions gave students quiet space to build confidence and imagination.
Beyond the classroom the students took part in community clean-ups to build environmental awareness. Whether sweeping the village or learning to manage emotions, the children gained more than new knowledge last month, they practiced empathy, self-expression and responsibility in action.
The spirit of the Greenway School continues to thrive through every shared laugh, every question asked and every boundary gently pushed. With each new month, this program doesn’t just teach, it transforms, reminding us that education, when fueled by heart, can illuminate futures far beyond the classroom walls.
- 10+ class types = 1 well-rounded month of learning
- Yoga, gymnastics and art = growth through movement
- 1 village clean-up = hands-on environmental education
- Reading sessions + home visits = deeper community connection
