During the month of August we rolled up our sleeves for daily conservation tasks like tank cleaning, seaweed farming and ocean fishing, while also launching the first evening classes for girls in Makunduchi. These sessions focused on marine education and conversational English, opening new pathways for both learning and connection.
We also visited community centres to raise environmental awareness and kept up regular care routines for the turtles. One highlight came in the final week, when local women joined in with harvesting seaweed. This is an initiative that supports conservation while creating added income for families. With or without hatchlings, this project continues to grow in all the right directions.
- 1 seaweed harvest = income for local women
- Weekly tank cleaning and feeding
- New evening class = education through empowerment
